I defiantly agree, I think it should be right at the top of the Principles list or at least very very close to the top and after all ... ... what would a dive club be without a little weirdness!!!

Hi Jas, I agree, we do need to look at making this a future goal. I think what you say is correct, it would make diving cheaper and would allow the growth of a heap of members.

To inovate we dare to dream,

There are those who can dream and those who cannot. The trick is recognising which capacity we fall into.

remember those who are not dreamers are often the ones who can put the dream into action.

In perspective though for every threadless cracker idea there are going to be a few bummers...

i agree having our own dive boat would be benifical to the club. particularly for inpromptu outings and it also opens up the door for cheaper diving, which therefore increases people chances of diving and therefore growing the industry. i would support efforts to raise funds. perhaps we could sell enteraitainment booklets and use the profits to start the process to secure funds

hey guys, i think renting cylinders is a great idea. i have 2 steel ones and of recent I've only used about 10 times a year. I still get them in test so its pretty expensive just for a small use. I would be up to rent them so long as they are easily accessible when I want to use them personally

I believe the 'usual operators' ignore technical divers for two main reasons: exotic gas mixes equipment and training, plus the dreaded legal liability insurance premiums. For a current dive facility to support tech divers it requires a many thousand dollar investment, plus a major increase in annual running costs. If a tech dive club approached a facility then I am sure they would then consider the investment. The weather conditions in Queensland over the last year mean a lot of operators are running at loss at present, with several even going out of business; that doesn't help matters either.

That said South East Queensland already has a premium Tech Diving facility at Always Diving http://www.allwaysdiving.com.au/Page/learn-scuba-dive-technical-diving-brisbane
As far as free-diving is concerned Scubaworld have started supporting this on the Sunshine Coast backed by training and equipment. http://www.scubaworld.com.au/learn-to-scuba-dive/learn-to-freedive/

Just a thought Chris, but for people up here in FNQ, would your members be willing to billet us out for those that would come down for a long weekend of diving?

Re the HMAS Adelaide - Having dived on the Ex-HMAS Brisbane 3 times since she was sunk, I would have to urge the opponents of the sinking of the Adelaide to pull their heads in and embrace a fantastic opportunity not only for their community but for the wildlife just off their beach. Marine life has come from wide and far to make the Ex-HMAS Brisbane their new home. Come on people, support this fantastic opportunity.

As an added incentive for people to help, when your photograph is used to identify a brand new Manta Ray individual, Project Manta allow you to name the Manta! They will then send you a certificate to recognise your contribution.
