Oh my god, I want to go back right now just writing this. Uepi is a magical place. It is probably indicative of a lot of places on this earth before we bulldozed it
It is a dive destination that you will definitely not ever regret going to. If you go there and have a crap time, I probably wont believe you unless you have video evidence. 3 days is too short, 6 months maybe too long. But who can just take 6 months to go diving?
The resort is very, very remote. There is literally no-one else around except a few small villages on other distant islands. It is untouched, tranquil, authentic, and beautiful. It takes just under an hour to get to Seghe airfield from
Honiara, then a short long boat ride to Uepi itself. The island is one of the barrier reefs that make up Marovo lagoon.
The diving here is unreal. This is a truly untouched ecosystem. There is plenty of life, to the point where it can be overwhelming. The reef is teeming with life, everything is healthy and the visibility is great. Most dive sites are only minutes by boat from the island, offering you plenty of time to relax in the hammock and chill out.
If you are into wrecks there are plenty of them to do. Check out Uepi’s page on the dive sites here. The one we did while we were there was the fishing boat Tayo. There is a great free-dive video of the Tayo wreck here.
There is also a P-38 and a dauntless bomber of the end of Seghe airfield that have bombs still attached. Just ask about the best dive sites and the staff there will let you know if the day is good for it.
The food was all grown on the island with very few supplies brought in on the milk run. Some of the food we ate made me want to stay there forever.
When you combine a great days diving, a few drinks on the deck of a thatched hut, wonderful hosts and some truly awesome food, you truly are in paradise.
Our accommodation was a bungalow overlooking Marovo Lagoon. To explain how awesome it was to wake up to perfect blue skies and crystal clear water every morning, makes me want to reach for my credit card, Ebay something of value, or both.
I will be back… more details can be found at www.uepi.com, or check out their Facebook page, there are a lot of goodies to look at.
