I really want to start a dive club. I’m not sure why now but I think it is something missing from the Sunshine Coast
Now I don’t know if I’m a weirdo, but I want to build this for a community of divers, not myself. I was thinking the other day that if this is successful, by whatever measure, that would be excellent, but what about me?
Would I really put all this time, money and energy into building something great, that I don’t even own…..?
You bet.
I look at it this way, some people build things for themselves, take a show car for example.
They spend a lot of time, money and energy building a car…. In the end it would be an excellent car, but how does that help the community. It would be shiny, and loud, and useless to anyone else but the owner.
My point is that individuals sinking money into community projects helps them, and other people. That is what I have done so far, and I hope others can see the benefit as well.
If people that share an interest can align towards a mutually beneficial goal wouldn’t this make a big difference for the lives of them all.
We can develop courses, rent good quality equipment, run overseas and domestic trips and every dollar members spend will benefit everyone. These benefits include better equipment, cheaper diving, the ability to participate in research, to grow as an individual, and to offer support to others wanting to progress in the sport.
It offers variety, community and opportunity for all. Sounds ok to me….
